Partly-printed DS, one page, 8 x 12.75, December 23, 1780. Document regarding ownership of a sea vessel. In part; “William Smith of Boston…maketh oath that the Brig Expedition whereof Henry Atkins is at present Master being a square-sterned Vessel…was built at Bermuda in the year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy and that the said William Smith, Isaac Smith Esq & John Codman are at present Owners thereof; and that no subject of the King of Great Britain, directly or indirectly hath any Share, part, of Interest therein.” In good condition, with partial separations along central horizontal and vertical folds, repaired separation to reverse of vertical fold, moderate to heavy overall toning, and scattered paper loss to edges. Partly-printed DS one page, 7 x 8.75, September 17, 1760. Document ordering Treasurer Alexander Hodgdon to pay “unto Honble David Cobb Esqr Speaker of the House of Representatives the Sum of Twenty Shillings in full 4 days attendance as Speaker, 3 days this & one last Session, over & above his pay as a Member—agreeable to resolve of this day for which this shall be your sufficient Warrant.” Signed at the conclusion by Hancock and countersigned by John Avery and Hodgdon. In very good condition, with a small separation to central vertical fold, uniform toning, and some light show-through from docketing on reverse. Cobb was aide-de-camp to George Washington during the Revolutionary War. He was appointed Major General of Militia in 1786 and rendered conspicuous service during Shays’ Rebellion. Hand-addressed free franked mailing panel, 6 x 3.5, addressed by Hancock to “To The Honble Major General Heath at Boston,” and franked in the lower left, “John Hancock.” In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds, scattered spotting and toning, and some light edge wear and chips.
