RR Auction John L. WordenCivil War admiral (1818–1897) who commanded the Monitor against the Merrimack in the first battle of ironclad ships. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of Worden in uniform by D. Appleton & Co. of New York, signed in the lower border in black ink, “John L. Worden, U. S. Navy,” and signed and inscribed on the reverse, “G. V. Fox, from his shipmate & friend, John L. Worden, U. S. Navy.” In fine condition, with unobtrusive surface loss to the lower border.
